Security Systems - Use The New Technology

by Edson Buchanan

A consumer has many options available and considerations to make while choosing security systems for home or business. Security planning is essential because there are two million burglaries annually, and an alert person has got to consider what is good for him and his circumstances. Some hire a security company to bother for this issue and others prefer an alternative of 'do it yourself' kits.

A security camera is part of almost every system. This can range from a sophisticated high-tech wireless camera to a basic web camera hard-wired to a computer in the home or office. A fully wireless security system is the most costly and probably will need to be installed by a professional, but it offers the most precise functioning. Some of the criteria for choosing a security system are price, the amount of light available, and whether the system needs to be hidden.

In the case of a business, cameras are not so likely to be hidden. In fact, it may be that keeping the cameras visible might help deter theft. In some businesses, highly visible signs state that a location or the customers are being watched by a security camera. Often, these kinds of security systems are watched constantly by a staff member who is watching screens that show him or her exactly what the cameras can see.

Some rely on recordings to review. Some houses put signs in front saying that they are secure. Some only have a symbol and no real system, which is not really a good practice. The price is something many people consider along with their own need. Many people are limited by the price.

In other situations, like the "nanny cam" to observe domestic help, it may be more logical to have a hidden system so those observed are unaware. These can be linked to an online monitoring site, viewed by the owner of the system or simply recorded. Businesses may record employee behavior as well as that of customers. Employer monitoring is quite legal, unless undisclosed cameras are used in places such as restrooms and dressing area or showers.

When trying to conceal a home security system a wireless security system is the way to go. The system will have less visible components and therefore make it easier to see without being seen. Another advantage of the wireless system is that it can be monitored remotely. This is a big advantage when dealing with a large area to monitor. An installation by an expert is probably the safest route. A consumer can also buy and install their own system to monitor activity.

If you are considering any security systems you should take down a list of the things that you need prior to calling on a professional service, or even before going shopping on your own at a consumer electronics store. The list should include not only your physical security and monitoring needs, but also what is within your budget as well, including start up costs, operating expenses, and monthly charges where applicable. Lastly it is also important to consider what kinds of alarms to use, and who to allow access to alarm codes.

Business security systems are more likely to be out in the open, with some feeling that a visible camera provides a deterrent to potential theft. Some will have prominent signage to announce the fact that the area is being monitored by a security camera. A wireless security system is obviously more expensive, but it has superb functionality and precision. However, it will probably also require professional installation. Homeowners installing a system should worry about the overall price of the system, the ambient lighting conditions where the system is installed, and whether or not hiding the system is required.
