Gift Ideas To Send To Our Troops Today
I am a recent college graduate and I am forever on the lookout for good gift ideas for my friends in the armed forces. On one hand, these soldiers are brave and noble. On the other hand, they are also in their 20's, just like me i.e., not used to not having the comforts of home or the thrill of a good time. I wish to let you know my own gift idead for my friends in the troops. I hope you will be able to utilize these ideas to assemble a good gift basket for military overseas.
When sending a care package to soldiers serving in the line of duty it is important to think in practical terms. Gifts that are fun, gifts that are good for bartering, or gifts that useful are some of the best types to include. A good mix of these three categories should make for a good care package. That way they can get something fun, something useful, and have something to share with their platoon buddies.
Some great useful items might include personal hygiene items: baby wipes (more practical than you'd expect!), soap with lotion or aloe, dental floss, and soft wash clothes are fabulous ideas, and a favorite brand of a standard item like deodorant or toothpaste never goes unappreciated. Other great practical items include new underwear, undershirts, and socks, bug repellent, and air freshener. Remember, though: sending food is not a good idea.
Our soldier also appreciate fun gifts. Small electronic devices like iPods (loaded with music before sending it!) and inexpensive digital cameras (with extra memory!) are all great fun gifts. A platoon often has a fortunate soldier whose people send him a portable DVD player; movies and television series. These are fun recreation gifts but one must not forget 'real toys' like basket balls and frisbees also.
You can express your thoughtfulness to your favorite soldier by sending them items that can be bartered. For example, tobacco, used by my own grandfather in World War II, is still a great bargaining chip for soldiers who are looking for somebody to take over a shift or share rations with. Discreetly packaged men's magazines will also be welcome. However, remember that you cannot ship certain items: liquor, drugs, and ammunition should not be mailed, especially internationally.
Soldiers of any rank enjoy inventive presents. Whether a lieutenant or captain, the idea is where one should begin. One must remember military regulations, and only send things which they can get through the mail. Photos and correspondence are always a welcome way to liven any personal gift basket!
Gift ideas to send to our troops are a great thing to share. The soldier's need different things; one can send practical items also but it will be hard for troops to share these items with other friends in platoon. New underwear, undershirts, and socks, bug repellent, and air freshener are good gifts for the troops, though one must remember that sending food is a bad idea. Our troops also look forward to receiving fun gifts! Here are a few ideas for exciting gifts to send our troops. Have fun creating your own good gift basket for military overseas personnel.
