Subscriptions to professional magazines enable you to keep up with the very latest developments in your field, whether you deal in products or services. The articles are generally quite thoroughly researched and give you information and guidance as to the directions your competitors are taking.

These are of course sample solutions and there can be different approaches which might work as well. However, no one can deny that reading case studies in business magazines does enlighten us.

Subscribing for a reasonable length of time makes sense - receiving a magazine in the post makes it more likely you'll read through it once at least.
