How to Write Your Resume Objective
Objective: To write a compelling article to help resume writers capture the attention of potential employers using a great resume objective.
The first thing people will notice when reading your resume is the objective. A good objective will be concise, upbeat, and grab the reader's attention.
Also, it needs to be tailored to each position you apply for. You need to tell the reader exactly why you want to work for them. To write that perfect objective, here are some tips:
This is the place to describe the kind of job you're seeking. Keep the objective neutral. Do not state your desire, but what you can do for the company.
So instead of writing something like, "A position where I can grow and use my skills" (etc), focus on the job itself. Say something more to the effect of, "An administrative assistance position in a fast-paced office environment." When you write your objective, focus on the company and the position. Keep this in mind: What would the manager want in a new employee?
Remember, only use one title per resume! Don't write a laundry list of all the things you're willing to do. The resume objective is a place to answer a very specific question: "What kind of job do you want?"
You want the objective to be short, no longer than a sentence. Two may be fine if they're both short and to the point, but a long objective will not capture the attention of your potential employer.
Don't state the obvious. Don't mention your hopes for advancement; everyone wants that. Focus on the job. It's needless to reach for the next job before you've even landed this one! In your objective, don't tell them that you're responsible and hard-working; that ought to be redundant. Let all your experience and skills do the talking here!
Now if you can keep all these tips in mind and write a good resume objective from the point of view of an employee, you will have a greater chance of landing the perfect job!
