Finding The Best Parts For Your BMW
For most car enthusiasts, once they buy a car, that is only the start of an extensive and frequently expensive process of modifying to get improved BMW performance. There are many hundreds of different decisions on how to go about this process. Where do you start, what can be completed by the average home mechanic and what needs pro assistance? And, where can one locate the best parts economically? Buying parts is the part of modifying that you have the most control over and where you can save time and money, if you do your homework.
Now, there is more than one opinion on this subject. For BMWs, significant design and engineering was completed by the manufacturer to produce a premium vehicle that is arguably a superior performer than many of its competition. It is far too easy to end up going backwards in your goal for speed by choosing flawed parts, installing them incorrectly or not matching up the performance characteristics of different systems on your car. In fact, BMW is now selling a line of its own aftermarket parts so you can be assured of the same quality and engineering in these parts just like the rest of your car. The downside is these parts are frequently much more expensive than their non-BMW counterparts.
So, how should one source quality parts for your BMW? I am a big believer of doing research online using a variety of tools. There are many fantastic forums out there consisting of thousands of BMW owners. With very little effort you can frequently find a member with your same vehicle who has already done the same modifications to their vehicle and can frequently give valuable insight into what works, who has the best price, installation instructions and more. A few of of the best include Bimmerforums.com, e46fanatics and roadfly.org. Time spent here will save you a lot of money and frustration so you don't have to repeat the mistakes of others.
Another excellent resource that is frequently overlooked is eBay. The number of choices is often overwhelming and there are a bunch of cheaply made, knock-off parts that you should try to stay away from. However, if you buy from a quality seller with good feedback and do your research on exactly the part you need and at what price, you can certainly extend your modifying budget. You can locate new parts, OEM BMW parts and used BMW parts quickly and easily to make your tuning project a winner.
